FAQ
Why do my light bulbs blow out frequently?
Using the wrong type of bulb for the fixture may be the problem. The wattage of the bulb must match the wattage assigned to the light fixture. Put in the wrong bulb and it will overheat. Overheating may also be caused by a light fixture with poor airflow design resulting in excessive heat building up around the bulb. Another reason may be a broken filament due to vibration. When the bulb’s filament breaks due to vibration, it burns out. Ceiling fans with lights that wobble because of incorrect installation often cause this problem.
Is my electrical panel unsafe?
If your home’s electrical panel is less than 200 amps, it’s time for an upgrade. If plan to buy an older character home, have the electrical panel checked for compliance to safety standards.
What does the term “short circuit” mean?
A short circuit is a problem in an electrical circuit where two ore more wires contact each other. If you see sparks in your electrical panel, you’ve likely witnessed a short circuit and you should have it checked by an electrician. Short circuits can destroy components, melt insulation and start fires.
Is there a difference between a fuse and circuit breaker?
Circuit breakers do not need replacement, but a fuse has to be replaced once it has tripped. They both perform the same function, disrupting the flow of electricity when a fault is sensed.
What is a GFCI outlet?
GFCI outlets are found where they are in close proximity to water like kitchens, bathrooms and outdoors. This type of electrical outlet is designed to protect you from electrical shock if moisture is present. They feature test and reset buttons. Press the test button to turn off the GFCI then reset it again. If it doesn’t reset, you’ve got a problem and will need an electrician.
